The biggest highlight of the movie was the protagonistвЂ™s equation with the elephants. Haath Mere Saathi, the 1971 film starring Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja was a classic. We have watched enough movies on corrupt politicians going to any lengths for their gains, they just donвЂ™t evoke the same response. The execution is extremely dated and annoyingly shabby. In todayвЂ™s time when the climate change is not a figment of imagination, HMS makes a point.Д«ut itвЂ™s the way the point is made which robs it off its glory. Destroying forests in the name of development is an important topic and the threat to the sensitive zones like forests are imminent. Haathi Mere Saathi is a well-meaning film. They make your small screen light up instantly.

The movie opens with some breathtaking shots of the forest from top, the canopy of trees, the beautiful animals, rich green trees and animal sounds. Every now and then, the audience is reminded he had planted several trees to enrich the forest just like Payeng. So when a minister (Ananta Mahadevan) decides to build a township at the cost of erasing a forest reserve, Vandev is ready to fight tooth and nail to protect the animals and the forest.ДЄn fleeting ode to the real forest man of India, Jaydev Payeng, RanaвЂ™s Vandev mostly takes a fictional route. Vandev has a connection with every animal in the forest, especially a herd of elephants that his grandfather was quite fond of. His grandfather had donated their lands to the Government for upkeep and conservation. He lives in the forest and among its inhabitants. Vandev (Rana Daggubati) is the forest man of India who has been honoured by the President for his uplifting work for forests. Kaka then becomes very ill and Kaki tells Ravi that the cause of his illness is Rajni's insistence that she not marry anyone except Ravi. A frantic Ravi searches high and low in vain, and is subsequently devastated to learn that she has perished in a train accident. The couple drop their travel plans and immerse themselves in research so much so that Shanti becomes ill, and not wanting to become a burden, leaves. Hoping to travel more, their plans are interrupted by the hospital's head doctor, who wants Ravi to focus on cancer research. The couple travel to Kashmir for their honeymoon, and settle down to a harmonious relationship.

A guilt-ridden Ravi marries Shanti much to the chagrin of his mentor, Kaka, who had hoped that he would marry his daughter, Rajni. He meets with Nurse Shanti, who lives an impoverished lifestyle with her ailing mother, on whom he decides to perform surgery, but she passes away. Ravi returns from abroad and takes up a position as chief surgeon in a hospital.
